Biggleswade United-My New Team
Yeah I got sucked in by myBUFC and the opportunity to purchase a share of an English Football Club. You may have heard of MyFC’s effort to purchase a club and recently they have worked a deal to buy Blue Square Premier side Ebbsfleet United. They got over 50,000 new share holders and are ready to take that club over. As attractive as that seemed to me, I looked for a smaller club to invest in and that club is Biggleswade United.
I love the fact that this club plays in the Spartan South Midlands League’s Premier Division, which is like 9 levels away from being a premiership side. I love the fact that once 5000 share holders are on board, we take over all the day to day decisions of the club. A true democracy in action. Majority rules, everyone will have their say. Being a libertarian minded person, I love this concept. Say what you will about my minimal investment, I’m going to have much fun with this. It’s like the ultimate in “Fantasy Football”, but instead of playing for fun, we are playing for a club’s future.
Today Biggleswade United took on Hertford Town and unfortunately, we suffered a 5-1 defeat. We are now 17th in the table out of 22 clubs. However with our help, this will change, at least, that is the plan.
If you would like to join me in this venture, visit myBUFC’s website for more info. I will keep everyone updated on my “new team” each week, including their big match next weekend verses London Colney. That is a very special match as the members who have already signed up & invested will, for the first time, call the shots prior to the game. We will vote on the starting 11 and what formation to use. It should be very interesting.
On an interesting side note, I found a You Tube video of my new club. Unfortunately, we were on the wrong side of a fantastic goal. Check it out. This is from August 2006.
