Rugby: Six Nations Championship Coming Soon!

Yes I know. I’m a USA supporter and some fellow Americans have a problem with the fact that I get excited about certain international tests or tournaments that don’t involve the Eagles. Fact of the matter is, other than the Sevens Series & Churchill Cup, there isn’t much “USA” rugby to get excited about. We need more international tests each year. Get your shit together USA Rugby Execs, I want to see our Eagles much more than I currently do.

So, since the USA Eagles have nothing planned until this Summer, I’m really excited about the upcoming 6 Nations Championship, which starts in early February. Italy, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, England & France compete in the annual competition. France won the Six Nations last year. I’m pumped. USA rugby fans who know me know that when I’m not supporting the USA Eagles, I support WALES. They are sort of my “adopted” nation.

In the history of the tournament (in it’s various formats), Wales have won it outright 23 times & shared the title 11 times. The Welsh also have 9 Grand Slams (awarded when 1 nation defeats the other 5) and 18 Triple Crowns (awarded when either England, Wales, Ireland or Scotland defeat the other 3 squads in one contested Six Nations Championship). Could this be the 24th outright championship for Wales? Only time will tell, but I doubt it…haha.

Since I was bored, I went on YouTube.com to re-watch some highlights from last year’s competition and came across the video below. I felt like sharing.

I will provide previews & results here at Try Gol. If you are new to Rugby, I would suggest watching this tournament. Its a great way to get started. No disrespect to the “Tri Nations”, but the 6 Nations is much more exciting. If you live in the States, Setanta Sports will provide delayed coverage of every match. Live matches will be on PPV.

  1. Hey, American here living in London and when not rooting for the Eagles - it was tough when the USA played England - I have to root for the good ol’ English! Let’s hope they keep their form from the latter stages of the World Cup!

  2. England have to be the favorites coming in.

  3. Well you did invent the car, so the good ol’ English will need all your ingenuity to repair their upcoming broken axel on their charriot. C’mon Scotland, we’re gonna hump ye all!
